Steinig Tal K-9 Police Academy Standard
The three areas of certification are, narcotics detection, tracking/trailing, and patrol utilization. The objective of the standards are to:
Ensure that police K-9 teams are properly trained in order to protect lives and property of our citizens.
Provide a standard in which all trained K-9's must maintain during the performance of their duties.
Ensure that handlers have adequate knowledge of the laws regarding the use of K-9's.
Prevent malicious use of partially trained K-9's within Law Enforcement Agencies.
Provide re-certification on a timely basis in order to maintain the integrity and credibility of the K-9 teams.

There will be a total of four types of searches conducted:
Vehicle Search
Building or Residential Search
Parcel Search (luggage, envelopes, boxes, etc.)
School Locker Search
The searches will include the following Narcotics:
Cannabis (marijuana, hashish, and derivatives)
Cocaine and its derivatives
Heroin and its derivatives
Methamphetamine

The purpose of the certification is to determine the dog’s ability to locate a suspected criminal or a lost person.

The team will be evaluated in the following areas:
Obedience/Control
Evidence search
Area search
Building search
Vehicle stops
Criminal apprehension/Handler protection
We certify K-9's that have been purchased from other K-9 facilities and provide them with maintenance training as requested.
